What is a Mapping Link?
A mapping link is a secure, external web link that allows authorised users to view the recent locations of a mobile device, based on its latest activity and events.
This is particularly useful for providing real-time or near real-time location visibility without needing direct access to the IntelliCare platform.
What is it used for?
Mapping links are designed to complement SOS alarms, ensuring that location information is still accessible when needed most.
They are commonly used by:
ARC operators who require quick access to location data
Care teams supporting users in the field
If an SOS alarm is triggered, the mapping link provides additional context, helping responders understand where the individual is or has recently been.
Key Features
Device-specific: Each mapping link is generated for a single device
Unique: No two devices share the same link
Secure access: Protected by IP whitelisting (see below)
Event-linked: Displays locations tied to recent activity/events
What is IP Protection?
Mapping links are secured using IP address restrictions, meaning only approved networks can access them.
What is an IP address?
An IP address (Internet Protocol address) is a unique number assigned to your internet connection. It identifies your network, similar to how a postcode identifies a location.
How to find your IP address
Option 1 – Quick method (recommended)
Go to a search engine (e.g. Google)
Type: “What is my IP”
Your public IP address will be displayed at the top
Option 2 – Through your IT team
Your internal IT team can provide:
Your public IP address
Or your organisation’s IP range (preferred for access)
How to request a Mapping Link
To set up a mapping link, please contact the support team and provide:
The device details (e.g. IMEI or device ID)
Your IP address or IP range for whitelisting
Once received, the team will:
1. Generate a unique mapping link for the device
2. Apply IP restrictions
3. Share the link with you securely
Important Considerations
Mapping links will only work from approved IP addresses
If your IP address changes, access may be lost
Links should be treated as sensitive and only shared with authorised users
Mapping links do not replace IntelliCare, but provide a lightweight alternative for specific users
VPN Usage
If you are using a VPN (Virtual Private Network), this may mask or change your IP address
This can prevent access to the mapping link, even if your usual network is whitelisted
If you experience access issues, try:
Disconnecting from your VPN
Or providing your VPN IP address/range to be whitelisted instead
If you are unsure whether you are using a VPN, please contact your IT team for guidance.
